Lukaku successfully set a record in the Europa League this season

The Belgian striker became the first player to score in nine consecutive Europa League matches after Inter’s 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

In the 21st minute of the match between Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen, Romelu Lukaku received a pass from Ashley Young in a position with his back to the goal. The Belgian striker showed strength when he controlled the ball against Julian Baumgartlinger and hit the finish to beat goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky.

This goal helped teachers and coach Antonio Conte increase the score to 2-0 after Nicolo Barella scored his first goal in the 15th minute. According to Opta, Lukaku is the first player in history to score in 9 consecutive matches at the Europa League arena.

Inter Milan had a match with Bayer Leverkusen

The Belgian striker scored 8 goals in five consecutive Europa League matches in 2014/15 for Everton against Wolfsburg, BSC Young Boys, and Dynamo Kiyv. Five years later, he returned to this arena in the colors of Inter Milan, scoring 4 goals in the last four matches against Ludogorets, Getafe, and Bayer Leverkusen. In total, Lukaku has 12 goals after 9 consecutive Europa League matches.

In the end, Inter Milan won 2-1 to advance to the semi-finals of the Europa League. This is also the first time in 10 years that the blue-black striped shirt team has participated in the European Cup semi-finals. In the 2009/10 season, coach Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan entered the semi-finals of the Champions League before winning the championship.

On August 6, with a strike against Getafe, Lukaku also entered Inter Milan’s history when he became the fourth player of the club to reach 30 goals in a season. Before him, Ronaldo de Lima (1997/98), Diego Milito (2009/10), and Samuel Eto’o (2010/11) are the ones who do this.

This season, Lukaku is the number one striker in the attack of Inter Milan with 31 goals and 5 assists after 49 games in all competitions. The striker born in 1993 did not hold his official position at Man Utd under coach Ole Solskjaer but resurrected strongly in Italy.
